We haven't had a good Southie thug movie recently

And this time, we'll be getting the biggest, baddest thug of them all. Hollywood East Connection reports somebody's prepping a script about Whitey Bulger.

Watch out Southie, more wannabe gangsta yuppies will be moving in.

Wannabe yuppie gangstas: I think they have a uniform

Scally cap- track suit- and bad imitation accents they adopt only when drinking- gold chain optional - which they never wear to their Fidelity jobs.

You left out one thing

the Baracuta coat.

LOL!

Yup! Outfit now complete.

Boston on the Big Screen: Thoughts?

Hi Chris,
My name is Natalie Guillemette and I am a senior at Northeastern university studying communications and journalism. I am writing a short story for our school newspaper on Hollywood's recent fascination with Boston and the reputation of Bostonians on the big screen as well as the new Whitey Bulger film on the horizon. Being a resident of Southie, I am very interested in gaining insight from your perspective and would appreciate you answering the questions mentioned below at your convenience. It should take no longer than a few minutes and would be such a great help (deadline of November 28). Feel free to add any other pertinent information regarding this issue that you feel I would benefit from. If you would rather answer these questions by phone, please feel free to contact me by email and we can set something up.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to your response!

Sincerely,
Natalie Guillemette

1. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon recently signed a contract with Warner Brothers to film a movie about Whitey Bulger in Boston. Are you concerned that this film will follow in the footsteps of its crime-filled counterparts like The Town, The Fighter, The Departed, and Gone, Baby, Gone? Or, what are your concerns for the movie? Do you anticipate that the directors will be able to accurately portray the Irish Mob in Boston?

2. How do you feel hollywood portrays Boston on the big screen? Do you feel it is a fair depiction or is it sensationalized?

3. While much of Boston's history is laced with crime, are you concerned that films like The Town, The Fighter, The Departed, and Gone, Baby, Gone undermine Boston’s many achievements by depicting the city in a negative light?

Again, feel free to include any other thoughts!
Many thanks

Asking the wrong guy here . . .

. . . I didn't grow up in Boston and have only lived here for a little over ten years now. I grew up in Wellesley - 12 miles down the pike.

I would rather no film be made about the "Irish Mob" at all. As for Boston's history being "laced with crime"- I have no experience with that so I can't say.

I have seen those films you listed. "Gone Baby Gone" seemed more true in it's atmospherics - but again- I have little experience of Dorchester other than infrequent visits to some second cousins over the years- who no longer live there.

The Boston portrayed in those films seems to be a Boston that doesn't really exist any longer- if it ever did. They seem fake and contrived socially and culturally.

Sorry- don't have much to say- and I'm probably not the right guy to ask anyway.

Whitey Movie

From what I remember there have been at least 3 novels, and a half dozen screenplays written about Whitey. There will be a Whitey movie, it's just a matter of when.

Hope they show his early years...

...as a thug who'd blow guys in the men's rooms of the bus and train stations and then rob them.

Can't wait for brother Billy's ringing denunciation of a true accounting of Whitey's career as a cocksucking armed robber.

New South Boston Hood Flick

I thought maybe Hollywood had run it's course hereabouts. I guess not. We'll be bracing for the next wave of 'Plastic Paddy's' who'll start surfacing soon!
