Marcy tweets that the manager of the Dunkin' Donuts at 21 Summer St. in Arlington has locked the air conditioning controls so workers can't turn it on. At noon on Saturday, it was 90+ degrees inside the store, she reports.

Doesn't Dunks have any courses for its franchisees on how not to get their arses and the Giant Corporate Arse sued blue? Clear violation of heat index guidelines here.

I guess I will no longer patronize that store. I'm surprised that they thought that doing this to their customers was a good idea either, especially with several alternative Dunks within a mile.

It's so cute that you think OSHA would actually enforce that stuff at a coffee shop. This isn't England...

Didn't you say your dad was some sort of safety consultant? Ask him if OSHA really has time to be doing this sort of thing, or if they're more concerned about all the people losing limbs in meat packing plants and stuff.

If somebody called it in, they have to send someone to investigate.

I worked with OSHA people when I was in graduate school - on NIOSH scholarships for my Master's degree. I know people who work there, and I know how that system works. I have personally called them out on an unshored trench issue in my own neighborhood, and they showed up.

OSHA has also nailed dunks before when they had teens doing jobs that require adults and the kids were injured in so doing. The states of MA and NH also nailed them for working hour violations for teens.

I worked at a college where a student called OSHA regarding the ventitaltion in one of the weightrooms. OSHA came out and made the college shut down the room until they got adequate ventilation for the room.
