Mark Jaquith reports the Cambridge City Council last night rescinded its earlier vote to allow illuminated signs on buildings in Kendall Square and North Cambridge, rather than spend money on a ballot question asking voters what they thought.
on the ballot for the next general election (which will be held ANYWAY) cost the city an extra $15,000?
Plus, they could probably save that money (and then some) in the next primary by putting all the primary candidates, regardless of party, on a single ballot.

Bummer
We have such signs in the Tech Square area with no problem. Plus, you have hotels with their signs on the river as it is.
Excellent!
Corporations can now spend their money on hiring a few people instead of useless Vegas-style illuminated mega signs.
Actually, they won't
They'll just spend it on some other type of marketing
How does putting this question

Cambridge doesn't have local primary elections
Just a single general election with all candidates (not identified by party) on the ballot.
Mailing charges
According to the City Manager there would have to be a mailing to all voters explaining the issue. That was his estimate of the cost.
Got it.
Thanks.
