Ah, Cambridge: Uproar at City Council meeting over posters urging city workers to 'buy local'

Cambridge Day reports on a debate sparked when one councilor blasted the alleged privacy violations of another councilor's proposed resolution for buy-local posters. Another wondered aloud what he should do if he wanted to support minority business owners but the shops were owned by minority owners from out of town.

My first laugh of the day

"when something comes through as a council order, that’s a very powerful statement to city employees.”

They're like gods, those city councilors.

Welp

Privacy?

I'm not seeing how this implicates "privacy" concerns. A supervisor gently suggesting that employees do something is a violation of privacy?

Where the privacy comes in

If you look at up-and-coming-go-getter Leland Cheung's original resolution or order or whatever they call it in Cantabridgia, it refers to a specific incident in which somebody at City Hall ordered flowers for Administrative Assistants' Day from FTD instead of from a local florist.

I think that's what set off Toomey, even though it doesn't name whoever it was that had such audacity.

I also think the Cambridge City Council has some anger-management issues. And I wonder if Councilor Reeve's head would explode if he lived in Jamaica Plain instead of Cambridge.

I had the exact same thought

These folks couldn't handle the insanity that is JP. I know I can barely stand it.

What if Wal-Mart moved its head offices to Cambridge?
