Allston restaurant owner snaps up closed cafe to keep Starbucks from moving in

The Feast interviews Jennifer Lee, owner of Myong Dong, on why she decided to replace the Allston Cafe next door to her place with her own coffeehouse after she heard Starbucks was talking to the landlord:

"I thought that would be awful for Allston, and that is nothing that we stand for."

I'm always happy to try out the local places. Sometimes they are much better.

Chains have destroyed small business and communities across America. Bravo to this person who is taking steps to keep a chain out of this neighborhood.

. . . I don't hate Starbucks- but I don't love it either. They are everywhere though and I needs my caffeine. I like local places but will hang at good location Starbucks as well.

There is literally a Starbucks two blocks down the street on Harvard. Would be nice to see something in that location, unless boarded up windows and graffiti is what Allston stands for.

1) That Starbucks is about half a mile away not "two blocks".

2) It's inside Brookline not Allston.

3) There IS something in that location, it's currently being built. The "graffiti" you're complaining about is their own advertising the return of a cafe to the corner.

WOO HOO! I cannot wait for this place to open, I've been going by it daily and cursing that it's not open yet (please hurry construction workers!). They should also pick up Pretty Things, a local brew that is fantastic.
