The MBTA posted this video from the re-dedication of the Kendall Band at the Kendall Square Red Line stop today.
MTBF = about a month.
At 1:30 today, the chimes were in full use.
The chimes were working Thursday night when I took the Red Line home from a NERD meetup. I got my technique back quickly -- used the Red Line a lot when I was an MIT student in the 80's. People were kind of looking at me funny. I don't know whether folks will use them as much as they used to.
I'm not sure I'd be quite so pessimistic about the MTBF, but yeah, they will of course break again.
Are the other two instruments (the floppy sheet metal and the ratcheted hammer that hits the ring) working?
