And the winner for best city to make an independent movie in is ...

Boston!

With its low unemployment rates, above-average paychecks and full supply of moviemaking professionals and newcomers emerging from one of the area's many highly-ranked film program (including Emerson College, Boston University and the Center for Digital Imaging at BU), Boston's film scene has been ready to explode for years. But with three of this award season's buzz movies' roots planted firmly in the Bay State - The Fighter, The Social Network and The Town - the time has finally arrived.

I agree COMPLETELY. There is no better place to make an
independent film. Police don't ask what you're doing, there
is better and more diverse architecture than most other
cities and you can literally...LITERALLY shoot anywhere you
want when you want and you're pretty much good to go.
It's miraculous, and a filmmaker's dream.
BUT...how do any of those hollywood films mean this is the
area to shoot your independent film? What, something like
20 percent of the Social Network was actually shot here?
Maybe that? How many people from here involved in the Fighter actually went to Hollywood and are now enjoying the
accolades the movie is getting? This place is so good
BECAUSE it's so far off the map...and H'Wood's radar. Stop
trying to ruin that!
What other city can you go to the Public Garden and shoot a
ten minute scene on the world's smallest suspension bridge and
have a bike cop watch you and tell you to be careful and just finish up soon? I LOVE this town for filmmaking-
