This stuff doesn't cost a whole lot, now that it's a non-prescription drug. Is there really a big black market for it, like there apparently is for Gillette razor blades?

A) It's still pretty expensive stuff and some people just prefer the brand name to Brand X.

B) Some people think it can extend the effects of methadone or other opiates.

Buying Gillette Mach 3 razor blades in CVS has turned into a major ordeal. They are in these plexiglass type cases with a springlike drawer device which makes a VERY loud noise when you open it. The idea being that one cannot be inconspicuous. One has to press a red button to get the drawer to open, but the red button never works, so it seems like you are forcing the drawer open, which triggers a recorded voice over the loudspeaker repeating over and over "management please report to men's shaving", until a dufus employee finally shows up 10 minutes later.

Although, one time near the State Street T stop a seedy looking kid approached me asking if I wanted to buy any Mach 3 razor blades. So apparently this black market thing does go on.

It can be a bit annoying. I buy about 50 bucks worth at a time just so I don't have to buy them to often. But they are good razors- only a barber's straight razor gives a closer shave - and you can count the places that still do that in Mass on one hand.

you don't have to summon an employee. But I do agree the buzzer is annoying.

I used to shop at the local Walgreens for such things, but stopped going there entirely once their security "experts" decided they needed to lock the drawers with the razor blades up, requiring one to summon an employee to unlock the case for you.

And the situation at Shaws just baffles me. Fool me once, shame on you - fool me twice, shame on me .. wait - what's the response for fool me eight times?
