I know where this is, and it always looked to me like the perfect place for a few nice restaurants and shopping/business.

Why don't they build housing for artists who are veterans and served the Country?

It is sad . VERY SAD. Per square mile south boston has more affordable housing than anywhere else in the city. Also , most people who voted yes for yet ANOTHER affordable housing dont realize that Boston Vets dont even have preference to live there and that 4 of the units are for "halfway" house living...GREAT ! Here goes the property value !!!

Most affordable housing per sq mile?!? More than the South End, which is a third of the size, has the same population and has the Cathedral, Villa Victoria, Castle Sq, Pine Street Inn? That sounds like something some one told you and you repeated. Don't confuse this guy for the facts...

And I'm pretty sure when a soldier steps on a land mine in the Iraq no one asks him if he's from Boston or not. 65% of South Boston is from outside of Southie and I hate to tell ya but I don't think they're all moving in from the Dot.

Also don't see how rehabbing a vacant dilapidated building and filling it with residents will do anything but improve your property value. Or are you concerned the construction might obstruct your view of the BK across the street?

Are you serious? The Pine St in? How about Castle Cove, Old Colony, S.Boston Housing Dev, Waterview, The three new towers that our corrupt "townie" reps past yet another few million for, 15 Channel Center, etc...I know the facts and I dont repeat what I am told. So maybe you should make sure you learn your facts "guy".

Mr Facts...it is actually now 68% population is not originally from Southie..so wrong again.

Making a MUCH needed community center that will help keeps kids off the streets, keep young professional families in South Boston, help curb the drug problems in Southie by giving people a place to go and use there free time seems to me to be a MUCH beetr way to use an old "dilapidated" building.

As for the BK...it is already a hangout for some "seedy" characters, drunks, and kids to hangout and harass good citizens and the BK staff. So lets add MORE low income housing and see how that cleans up the neighborhood????? Smart move ...smart

"Evelyn Friedman, director of Neighborhood Development, said Patriot Homes was better financed and had more support, including 371 letters. When the Herald pointed out that many of those were form letters with illegible signatures and no addresses, Friedman said they don’t verify residence on those letters. But she insisted the support was there."

Yes, and at the end of every rainbow is a bowl of lucky charms. Who do these people think they are?
