Blogging while Brown

Is a newish group in the Boston area for bloggers of color. They're holding a meetup tomorrow at the wonderfully named Microsoft NERD Center, between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. It'll be one of those rare chances to see me outside of my natural habitat (i.e., slouched over a dining-room table in the remotest part of Roslindale), since I'll be the guest speaker.

At first I thought this would be for a local Republican Senator ;-)

Just curious -- why did they pick someone decidedly non-brown to be their guest speaker?

I'm like the Ron Burgundy of Boston blogging (although I'm probably more like one of the PBS guys, except I've yet to push anybody into a bear pit).

I thought it was going to be about UPS

Skin color of bloggers doesn't matter.

One can pretend it matters, especially if it gives an excuse to network.

But unfortunately, it seems there are cases where it does still matter.

But yeah, NERD Center! I can't believe I've never been there before.

I kind of expected to see you there last weekend at BarCamp.

How did I miss you? I've wanted to meet you for years.

Microsoft NERD Center is a really cool place that all sorts of technology meet-up groups use for get-togethers. Many of them are for open-source technologies such as PHP that Microsoft would never willingly go near.

I was there for a local industry association meeting not too long after they opened. Picture Microsoft trying to copy Google's environment. Shocking, I know--the thought of Microsoft copying something someone ELSE did first?

It's a pretty decent space though, and it's a good room to have a meeting assuming you'll be in he same one I was in.

Nobody goes to Microsoft if they can get a comparable job at Google.

So... which color are you now?

You wouldn't happen to be a quark, would you?

Nobody's ever called me a Ferengi before.

Hasn't everyone in publishing upgraded to InDesign by now?

I can't tell you how marginalized I get for keeping it real and representing my hood by blogging on the Internet and running a bevy of ads and trackers. Things are so different for bloggers of color. Hate the game, not the player.

I have a long-standing obligation that I can't get out of otherwise I'd be there.
You're the man Adam - you've connected so many of us.
I'd like to be kept informed about the group.
