Crime epidemic in Wellesley

Graffiti's gotten so bad in Wellesley town officials have had to put up signs telling people not to spray-paint things. And somebody promptly spray painted those signs!

Gee, it looks just like Allston. The horror!

A couple of months ago the BPD put up signs all over the place prohibiting graffiti tagging and bill-posting - in most cases, these signs went onto poles that were already defaced by graffiti and stickers, and of course there's been no effort to remove said graffiti and stickers. But there are signs proclaiming that it's illegal now! (Some of which have indeed been tagged...)

It actually looks like a stencil of the Bacardi trademark - which is something I would expect to see in Allston, but not in Swellesley. I would have expected some stupid tag name from some stupid suburban teenager trying to seem tough.

Isaac, it's Yossarian from Catch-22. For someone commenting on "some stupid suburban teenager," you seem pretty stupid yourself. Stop your self-righteous teenage-shaming, read a book, and get cultured before you post some alcohol-driven comment. Clearly, these teenagers were trying to make an educated point!

Bacardi trademark? Really Issac? It's Yossarian from Catch-22. For someone who feels so entitled to shaming "some stupid suburban teenager" you seem pretty stupid yourself. Before you post asinine and immature comments, get off the computer, get cultured, and read a book. Clearly these teenagers were trying to make an educated point (something which you may never have done before).

With a zillion budding hipsters living in and passing through the neighborhood (I love 'em, but they can be full of themselves), a similar situation here was successfully addressed by reporting specific poles to 311 the Thomas Michael Menino Re-election Constituent Services Command Post via Web and iPod. They were cleaned up in a jiffy.

Should the City address the problem without any effort on your part? Of course. Will they? Well, it's likely to happen sooner if you prod them. No need to be accusatory or confrontational about it, just point out the locations and say that the poles are covered with stickers and flyers and stuff. And thank them. That's all it took here, anyway. Surprising but true.

I do report them, frequently, especially since I finally got a smartphone about 6 weeks ago. In the most recent case, I sent photos of a street sign with tags all up the pole, as well as defacing the sign. The sign was replaced fairly promptly; the pole remains covered with tags.

That is the stupidest thing I've ever seen, a sign that says, "No Spray Painting". Yes, that will stop the kids, because they didn't know it wasn't allowed.

'cause when little Bradford Tweedledee Trustfund IV gets caught in Dudley Square, there are consequences! Just so unfair! Unfair I say!

Good that they are tagging at home now where Mimsey and Dadums will come down to the station and give him what for! Not like he was going around committing a real crime - like being Dee Brown or anything.
