Dog found alive in rubble of Readville house that burned down a month ago

Channel 4 reports a woman burned out of her River Street home last month recently returned to the property to look for belongings - and promptly heard scratching noises being made by her pet, Lola the long-haired dachshund. Lola had somehow survived not only the two-alarm fire but being locked inside the remains of the building for a month.

First Penelope, now Lola? Boston animals are adept at surviving on their own

Animals are totally amazing survivors - dachsunds are ratters and are one of the more adaptable breeds, but still! Is there any fund for Lola's vet bills? Poor thing!

When my BIL's house burned down and they found one cat, seriously burned, two weeks later. She recovered, but had no ears and lots of vet bills.

They found another cat a couple of months later trapped in the basement of a vacant house (the cat had pushed in a screen, went down through a window, and couldn't get back up). Vacant house no longer had a rat problem - imagine that!

Next they'll find the gnawed bones of the person Lola has been eating for the last month. What a heart-warming story!

Brings to mind Hitchcock's TV series character who served leg of lamb to the cops investigating her husband's death; said gigot having been used to knock off the old boy - no murder weapon was ever found.

That's actually based off a short story by Roald Dahl. Loved his short stories.

"Lamb to the Slaughter" by Roald Dahl is the one you're thinking of.

If there is a fund for Lola's recovery, please post the details!!

I have a long-haired doxie and they are such tough little dogs :)

The MSPCA is collecting donations; any extra money will go to a fund to help poor people whose pets need medical care.
