An entire reality show devoted to Bostonians

It's the natural progression. Hollywood East Connection alerts us to Deathwish Movahs (well, OK, "Movers"), an eponymous series about our local moving company.

"Boston is a character in this show. It hasn't really had its own reality show before. It has the most history of any major city, the people are hysterical – between the accents and the attitudes, the neighborhoods ... it's just a fun city to shoot in, and it's very difficult to move in," said Stout.

Would it be completely scandalous of me to say that I wish they'd stop filming stuff around here that focuses so much on "Boston character"? I mean it's nice to watch movies where you recognize the locales, and it's nice that the idiots on the back of the Metro section of the Globe have other people in addition to Giselle and Tom Brady to talk about, and I imagine there might even be a little economic benefit...

...but this won't end well. The more Boston attitude or idiot-syncrasies are put out there as entertaining or desirable, the more it'll become run-of-the-mill and cliched. The Red Sox have already become the Yankees (I try to just ignore that fact and enjoy the baseball -- so I try not to read Dan Shaughnessy or listen to sports talk in general) and commercially we're becoming indistinguishable from any other East Coast city. When you're no longer an underdog, your obnoxious quirks are no longer amusing, they're just obnoxious.

Feels like Philadelphia is where Boston was at the beginning of the 90s.

Eh, so what? At least it's not a reality show about Tom Brady's hair.

whose website is here: http://www.deathwishpiano.com/

I don't see any sign that they've removed "Piano" from their name.

They're calling the show just Deathwish Movers.

So will we be seeing camera crews around Allston come move in day?

They were filming on Fairfield near Newbury a few weeks ago. They were moving a great dane out of a top floor apartment (because he couldn't make it down the stairs) using a crane with a construction 'basket'. Funny thing is they were re-creating the move, not actually doing it for real... so they had a stunt dog this time, from what the detail cop told me.

Deathwish moves far more than pianos, mostly problematic stuff - but I think the name and look of most of the employees is what got them the show (i used to eat lunch at same place as their guys, and they seemed to enjoy the bad-ass vibe and look). They seemed to like what they did.

I can vouch for the fact that no pianos are required for them to move your stuff. They moved me into and (6 years later) out of a 3rd-floor walk-up in Roslindale, the stairwell of which could not accommodate my sofa. They were able to hoist the couch into (and out of) a large window in the dining room of the unit, and they were the most amiable and competent group of moving guys I have EVER encountered around this city.

A TV show, though? I dunno.

Not to sound like one of those people who don't have a tv and like to tell everyone that "they don't watch television," but I haven't had a tv for a number of years, so I don't watch television. (I do watch Daily Show and South Park episodes on-line and occasionally will graze in the fields of Hulu for 70s sitcoms.)

But if this is what people find entertaining television viewing these days... I mean if I was walking by on the street and saw this (and had nowhere else to be) I might stand around and watch it for a bit to see if anything breaks, but watching it on tv?? I guess I'll just stick to Sanford and Son.
