Fire in Back Bay building undergoing repairs due to massive fire last year

The Boston Fire Department reports a fire on the first floor of 483 Beacon St., a building at the intersection with Massachusetts Avenue that suffered a 9-alarm fire last year. Construction workers were ordered out of the building. AlertNewEngland reports a Boston Fire detail officer was the first to report the fire.

I didn't know a nine alarm fire was even possible.

I believe it's the highest alarm possible. If I recall correctly the fire at the East Boston Yacht Club several years ago went to 9 alarms.

Just from memory, I believe the Back Bay fire went to a 10th alarm for relief purposes. All of the cities and towns in the area operate on 10 alarm running cards: http://massmetrofire.org/images/BostonCard2011.jpg
You could have a bigger response than that, too, usually referred to as a "general alarm".

Any update on the extent of the damage?

BFD hasn't posted anything yet. However, based on scanner traffic, it didn't spread beyond the first floor, and BFD wasn't there that long. OSHA will be called in to look at the fact the contractors apparently didn't have a safety plan.
