Harvard grad student robbed at knifepoint

The Crimson reports it happened around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday on Prescott Street, across from the Harvard Faculty Club:

The shorter suspect rummaged through the victim's backpack while the taller suspect asked whether the victim had anything else on him.

The victim can report the gender and relative heights of the attackers, but not their skin color.

Remember the Dee Brown incident?

A light-skinned person had robbed the bank a week or two before, yet the drive-up teller insisted that Dee Brown was him.

Dee Brown isn't anywhere near light-skinned.

Moral: your interpretation of shades of skin color is likely influenced by your experience with people of color.

Um, I think the lack of racial detail you are criticizing, anonymous coward, comes from the reporter writing the story - or his editor - not the victim. And probably because what was reported to the police was not absolute, but might have been something on the order of "kinda tan color, maybe Hispanic, or arabic, or maybe southern italian. Anyway, something like that".

Since I am 100% sure you could never be bothered to look at the actual police report to substantiate your assumption of the sin of political-correctness, feel free to assume he reported whatever skin color rationizes your personal bigotry.

The original comment was an obtuse reference to a Cambridge policy not to disclose description of race of attackers to news organizations.

Because it is insensitive to report that a victim was mugged by two black males, when the victim reports that they were mugged by two unambiguously black males. Which smacks of racism and cynicism. Everyone knows that only a minority of black males are committing the crimes, but the policy reflects an embarrassment of race and how people will perceive the reports. Better to cover it up, since Cambridge residents are not intelligent or progressive enough to handle the information that the majority of violent crime reported in town is by black males? Or is this some PC scheme from some busybody deciding that black kids in Cambridge might get the wrong idea or poor self-image from reading the police blotter, that they don't already get from listening to gangsta rap and imagining that they are living somewhere other than comfy Cambridge.

Sounds like misguided political correctness, and I bet you a lot of people are rolling their eyes at the PC this time.
