He gets three changes of clothes a week

The Herald tells us about Bulger's new home in the maximum-security wing of MCI Plymouth.

The Globe reports Bulger talked to feds about life on the lam, including slipping into Mexico to buy pills for an alleged heart condition. Also, could Bulger dish on the Gardner Museum thefts?

Howie Carr tells Bulger why he should just plead guilty. Peter Gelzinis talks to the brother of Flemmmi's murdered ex-girlfriend on why he didn't go to court on Friday to see the man who strangled his girlfriend, then pulled her teeth out, then dumped her body under the Neponset River Bridge. Margery Egan talks to some other survivors.

Kevin Cullen isn't letting the FBI off so easily. Joan Vennochi writes Billy has much to answer for as well. Joanna Weiss says the ad campaign proves people who watch the soaps aren't just half-asleep bon-bon eating housefraus in curlers. They're wicked smart.

Anyone else find the Herald reporting surprisingly weak?

Before this it was my impression that they were to go-to paper on all things Whitey. Howie has pretty much had nothing in his columns since Whitey was caught. And all the interesting details coming out are over at the Globe.

The Herald's "reporting"...

...has been weak for years. It's a couple of local stories, a bunch of wire stuff, and the same tired columnists spewing the same agendas for going on three decades now. The Globe pilfered most of their talent (and no, Dave Wedge is not talented---he's a spin-doctoring hack).

I've noticed a renewed interest in the ISG Museum thefts since Bulger has been grabbed. I thought it was pretty well known that the redhead did it and that Bulger had nothing to do with it.

Also, it's a joke that the local TV media refers to him as "Whitey" instead of the correct and appropriate "Bulger".

Local TV media is a joke, period. I honestly do not know why they still have an audience. And I mean anywhere on the planet.

Ditto . . .

. . . on that. When there are severe weather events is when I might shoot a glance at local news- and every time I do and I watch a little of their other "news" I actually can't believe it has got worse from the last time I watched it.

Chet and Nat- what happened?

Herald: cross between The Onion and high school newspaper

John Carroll calls the Boston Herald "currently a cross between The Onion and a high school newspaper."

Their "reporting" consists of printing rehashed material from an op-ed columnist who, in the previous millenium, used to be a journalist.

I'm gonna . . .

. . . stay away from following this for my own sake. If we had trustworthy ethical media I'd follow it- but I don't think we do and I have seen nothing to indicate otherwise from the few pokes I have taken at this.

Don't have the stomach for it- and I really believe that I'd end up being dumber on this if I did follow this story in mainstream media. They had me walking around for a decade like a moron spouting and believing lies on this- and from what I have seen- they are ten times worse since Whitey went on the lam.

I hope for a quick but fair trial and for this to be gone. I don't expect any deeper examination at what went on at all.

Some commenters here that I trust (though not always agree with) can tell me second hand what is going on. But I can't read this town's papers on this. Just can't.

Hopefully he catches a shank in the showers..

and that will be the end of it. Best part of this; Howie Carr enjoying his 15 minutes as the media "expert" on all things Whitey. Guy hasn't been on a Boston street in years that doesn't have a valet on it, yet he acts like he has a bug in the mens room at Local 25. Meanwhile, Michele (One L on Facebook!) McPhee can only sit back and grimace with jealousy, despite what the surgeon told her about what excessive frowning will do to all his good work.
