House on fire in West Roxbury

Fire officials blame careless disposal of a cigarette for a mid-afternoon fire at 45 DeSoto Rd. that displaced five people and sent a firefighter to the hospital with a broken wrist.

The fire, which started on a top-story porch, spread to the attic and did an estimated $200,000 in damage, the Boston Fire Department says.
