Walking around Back Bay and downtown yesterday, I saw very few sidewalks salted, and I slide around quite a bit (but luckily didn't fall). It was pretty bad.
Of course, I saw plenty of jackass joggers out in T-shirt and short shorts. Hello? Are they immune to ice or something? Super-traction-shoes? No idea.
As a matter of fact, there does seem to be a shortage of salt. Several FB friends were discussing going from store to store in search of ice-melt over the weekend.
However, I was also in the Back Bay yesterday, and didn't have any trouble at all - sidewalks were clean, not icy. After the freezing temperatures overnight, this morning was another story...
Were you around some of the less heavily trafficked areas? I was on Comm Ave and there was a great deal of the "invisible ice" making every footstep potentially treacherous. Boylston seemed better.
The problem is that we are in a "thaw" that really isn't much of a thaw. That means that cleared walks are glazing over when water from the melting snow piles pools up or spreads out, only to refreeze as black ice over night. There was a lot of it around this morning, almost all of it the result of yesterday's above freezing temps.
I hope that DeLeo is indeed okay, if a bit rattled. Perhaps Speaker Slippery Slope should watch this while he mends?
They had a few jugs left of this non-salt organic stuff, and tons of empty boxes that had once held calcium chloride bottles, which somebody had made sure to stack very neatly on the shelves as if there were something actually inside them. It was very bizarre.

You are an expert in
You are an expert in everything. Why aren't you in a position of power, or at least a position of importance? What could the reason be?
What could it be?
Potemkin salt displays at Dedham Star Market on Sat.

No Salt in Watertown
Either at Home Depot or Star Market (Cambridge/ WT line).
The guy at HD was obviously tired of talking about it, but said that there "might" be a truck on Sunday with some.
No salt at South Bay Home Depot either
as of Saturday morning. I was lucky enough to grab two 10 lb bags at a local CVS later that day.
Don't hate on the joggers
They probably have grips (aka ice cleats) attached to their sneakers that provide better traction.
