Licensing Board to Airport Hilton: Do not disrespect the police

The Boston Licensing Board today put the Airport Hilton on notice: Give the local constabulary any guff and the result could be a license suspension.

At issue was a surprise license inspection by two BPD detectives on March 23. The detectives told the board at a hearing Tuesday that the hotel restaurant manager at first refused to let them because they had not made an appointment. He then called the hotel security director, who told the detectives they could carry out their inspection but that in the future, they should make an appointment.

"We don't make appointments," Det. Kevin McGill said.

Hotel attorney Andrew Upton apologized to the board, said the hotel realized the behavior was wrong and that the restaurant manager's employment status was now "tenuous" because of the incident.

Despite his apology, board Chairwoman Nicole Murati Ferrer made it clear she wouldn't tolerate any such behavior in the future. The whole point of surprise inspections is surprise, she said.

"You do understand that just because you're a hotel or just because you're at the airport you don't get special treatment," she told Upton and two hotel managers who attended the hearing.

At a meeting today, the board voted to suspend the hotel's license for one day, but to suspend the punishment to see if the hotel shapes up.

I'm guessing this is a liquor license inspection?

Legally, they can check liquor and food related stuff, occupancy (that's more of an issue for clubs and non-hotel bars, though), even hotel-related things, since all of those fall under licensing-board or city licenses.

police messing with a multi million dollar international hotel chain. You dont crap were you eat. I smell a lot of paid details and security jobs when they retire going south. Hope they found something realy bad beside an ego trip to no where.

So you don't think the Hilton needs to be inspected because its a chain? That doesn't make a ton of sense. They should be inspected the same as anything else.
Also, that comment doesn't even make sense - what details are at the Hilton? And you think the Hilton will leave Boston because of this?
Also where is the ego trip? they didn't comply with the inspector and police so they were reprimanded. Where is the ego? Is the inspector just supposed to turn around and say "well i guess they showed us!! we should just leave and let them go un-inspected?"

Don't they have more important things to be doing, like police work?

I thought we had inspection services to do this instead of sending out two detectives.

Wow--I guess it runs in the family. I know Paris has had her run-ins with the law, but man, don't mess with Airport.
