Man arrested behind Newbury Street store linked to robbery spree along the swank street

SuspectSuspect at work at 179 Newbury on July 7.

Boston Police report a man arrested as he appeared to be getting ready to break into a Newbury Street shop early this morning will be charged with a series of other heists along the street.

Officers on routine patrol around 1:45 a.m. today spotted a guy jumping down from an air-conditioning unit in an alley behind BLVD Boston, 251 Newbury St. They asked him what he was doing there. He said he was just using the alley as a restroom, but their attention was drawn to a backpack up on the AC unit, police say:

As officers continued to talk to the suspect, he became visibly nervous, breathing heavy and sweating. Officers then inspected the bag and noticed that it contained a large pry bar/ hammer tool, latex gloves, leather gloves, a black mask, a head lamp and a Leatherman tool.

Police say Anthony Roman, 42, then confessed he was actually about to break into the store and grab some shoes when he was spotted. He was then charged with attempted breaking and entering and possession of burglarious tools, police say, adding he will be charged in the near future for additional break-ins.

Innocent, etc.

What the holy hell is he wearing in that photo?! It looks like he tried to dress up as a Klansman but only had toilet paper handy. Creepy.

What that outfit really cries out for is better accessories.

Reports ammended it to Antonio, not Anthony

Also, the report doesn't say he admitted to any previous break-ins. If this is the case, and he wasn't wearing a ridiculous all-white ensemble when they nabbed him, then I would question the wisdom of including a picture of an earlier event and identifying it as the same individual.
