The Outraged Liberal doesn't think much of the FBI's latest effort to find Whitey by focusing on his girlfriend, who likes getting her hair done and may have a thing for white teeth:
It's hard to imagine a bigger embarrassment for the vaunted crime stopping agency. The only thing harder to imagine is that this tactic will be any more successful.

All that taxpayer money wasted when half the city
knows Whitey's in Ireland. He's been there for years and he probably looks nothing like he did when he was here. Word is the Irish owed him many, many favors for his years helping out the "cause".

Why?
In what I've read so far, there's no word on whether the "chase the girlfriend" avenue led them to him or not.
I'd say it's a wait and see. In fact, if they caught him through some other means, I'd say his point is actually made for him. Why'd the double down on "get the girlfriend" when some other strategy ended up leading them to him at the same time?
Then again...

One (remote?) possibility...
... the FBI got the tip from someone who NEVER wanted to be identified, so the FBI defvised the ad campaign as cover (so other tips could be pointed to -- and not the real one).
If you just spent $2 million?
I'm not a conspiracy nut, but would it be beyond someone at the FBI to say "a direct result" when it wasn't...but they didn't want to look stupid for blowing $2,000,000 just a few days before a different break in the case came up? What's the harm in that?
Until/unless details of how the new campaign led to the tip which led to Whitey come out, I'm going to sit on just this side of skeptical for now.
