Cab in the Muddy RiverPhoto by BFD.

A Brookline cab driver who lost control exiting Storrow Drive at Park Drive wound up in the Muddy River this morning, the Boston Fire Department reports.

The cabbie got himself out of his vehicle OK; a tow truck and a hazmat crew responded to remove the cab and clean up anything it might have left behind.

This is a Brookline cab - don't know what their rules are.

Seems to be taking "Brook" a bit seriously ...

I've never even seen a card reader in a Brookline cab. They're not required like they are for Boston cabs.

Can you imagine the outrage from the anti-bike crowd? At least we know the roads are safe, with skilled professional drivers like this out there.

It has something to do with the excessive quantity of horsepower involved, as well as the ability of a heavy vehicle at speed to destroy a decorative guard railing.

Cyclist would just hit the rail, say "ouch".

Where exactly was this? And why wasn't there a guardrail that's designed to stop or deflect a car?
