Police: Gigantic Roxbury fire a failed suicide attempt

Boston Police report a Medford man faces arson and attempted murder charges for the explosion and resulting six-alarm fire that destroyed apartments in seven connected apartment buildings early this morning.

Mohamed Abdul Jabar, 28, of Medford, was arrested after he showed up at Boston Medical Center with second-degree burns, police say:

The suspect is currently being treated in intensive care with 2nd degree burns to his arms, hands and face. His injuries are non-life threatening.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the fire was the result of a failed suicide attempt by the suspect. It also appears that he does not live at that location but may have been in a relative’s apartment.

Yikes

What a terrible situation. I'm not sure if it would be better if the arsonist was 'simply' a criminal or not, but jeez... heart goes out to the whole building.

Is his dad-

Kareem???

Nope, he's

Roger Murdock, an airline pilot.
