Ray Flynn's house ransacked

The State House News Service reports the former mayor's South Boston home was torn apart and burglarized Thursday while Flynn and his wife attended a funeral mass. Among the items taken: A cross given to Flynn by Pope John Paul II and letters from various world figures.

District C-6 reports a nearby house was also broken into around the same time; in that case, the thieves got away with a Movado watch and jewelery after removing the front-door lock.

That cross was probably blessed.

Remember the scene in the first Indiana Jones film, when the Nazis opened the Ark of the Covenant?

. . . love that movie by the way. The second one- Temple of Doom? Pretty good as well but not as good. The third one? Ehhhh. The Fourth? Ughhh.

The third one? Ehhhh.

What are you... insane? The Last Crusade was an amazing movie on a lot of fronts. Comedy, cinematography, action, special effects, quotability...

You really need to rewatch it.

. . . sounds like some pretty sentimental stuff was taken. That's rough.

The mother of (The Felon) Finneran was laid to rest yesterday. I'm guessing that's where he was.

if Whitey was still in town.

. . . would have given him the cross as tribute- and he and the FBI would have had a viewing of it over wine and cheese.

I've got to wonder if somehow this was a targeted burglary; sounds like nothing downstairs was touched, yet personal but valuable papers are stolen from upstairs. I don't think pawn shops are where the detectives should be looking, but rather historical paper dealers.

Also, Flynn says that a neighbor claimed someone had tried to break in that same morning. Did the neighbor call the police? I'm guessing not, since I can't find any reference that such a call was made. See something say something indeed!

The beautiful people of Southie are not close knit, do not watch out for each other and do not know each other.

But how about when their own house was the location of the attempted break-in??

Why would anyone think a break-in was funny? It could happen anywhere, anytime. I feel bad for the Flynn's. Nobody deserves to be robbed. As for Southie being a tight-knit neighborhood? Most neighbors look out for each other, in any decent community. I think part of the problem is the influx of newer "hipper" residents here, pre-occupied with a blackberry or tuned out with Ipods while walking their dogs. As for the dogwalkers, what's up with them? Walk your dog, pick up after it and stop leaving bags of sh*t all over town! If you live here, get to know your neighbors, take pride in the town and pick up your plastic bags of bring them home to your own garbage can!

So sad Shelia...you had me at first agreeing with you . You are right a break in is NOT a thing to joke about. I too also feel bad for the Flynn's and anyone else it happens to.

But then you had to go there...again another Southie lifer blaming the "yuppies" or as you dubbed us "hipper" residents for anything that is wrong with South Boston! I would have to say, it is a safe bet a "yuppie" didnt break into the house..most likely a strung out Southie kid whose parents blame the yuppies for him getting addicted. Ha! Sorry you make me laugh. What have we done to South Boston? What have we done to have a negative affect on the community? Before we lived here there was nothing but..wanna be gangsters (well there still is a few)...dive bars, and people who complain about everything !!! and of course they complain abouth all that is wrong in their lives and of course it is never their fault! Always someone elses and now the yuppies are the ones to blame... so sorry.

And then you go after the dogs? and the people who own them? What is with you people?? If you see someone leaving crap ...call them out??? Offer them a bag??? Nah, why would you do that? Your too much of a coward and would rather complain to your friends at the coffee shop . I am so sick of listening to you. Thank GOD most South Boston born and raised and New Generation Southie residents are not like you . We all get along . We all have common goals and all want to have a fun, safe city.

come on, blame yuppies cause a neighbor didnt call 911 when some tried to rob him. Maybe we gotta stop blaming yuppies and start looking at the townies and the drugs. the yuppies use blackberres and walk pugs yet they are the down fall of southie. its drugs people
