Renovations begin this summer on Boston's only trailer park

The mayor's office today announced the impending renovations, which will include new water and sewer lines, road repaving and electrical upgrades at the Boston Trailer Park off the VFW Parkway.

The park, built in 1947, has 104 units, many of whose residents spent years fighting plans by the Clair family - which owned the trailer park - to bulldoze the place and expand its car dealership there. Clair finally gave up in 2004 and agreed to sell the park to an interim owner who would in turn sell it to residents. Residents took full ownership in February. The city has earmarked $1.5 million for the upgrades to the trailer park, most of whose residents live below the average median income for the city.

If I am not mistaken, it is the responsibility of the land owner to pay for any improvements to internal roads, sewer lines or water lines. As a homeowner, if my water or sewer line breaks, the city will fix what is off of my property (under the sidewalk or street), but anything that is on (or under) my property is something I have to fix at my own expense.

It depends on what they're doing. If the city is laying out public roads, then the sewer work would be paid for by the city. You didn't pay for the sewer and water lines running down your street. This is new work.

If the city is running services under private roads, then they're probably giving away money.
