West Roxbury Patch reports on a one-alarm fire early this morning at the Dunkin' Donuts at 1630 VFW Parkway (the one near where Savers used to be, not the one by Spring Street).
Because I can now refer to everything by what it used to be!
Yep, Savers is gone from that location - it just opened up a larger store up the road a bit where the Stop & Shop used to be (the one in West Roxbury, that is, not the one that used to be where Dick's now is - you know, across the parkway from where the IHOP used to be, just past where the Chinese restaurant used to be).
If so, at some point, yeah, it became a Stop & Shop and stayed that way until they moved the Dedham one that used to be where Dick's is now into the even mega-ier new market a bit closer to where Fontaine's used to be. Then they closed it, and it was where LA Fitness used to have plans to be.
Bubbles is still there, no? Was as of a few months ago, anyway. But yeah, we're talking about the same place. I apologize for the incorrect correction, if it was indeed S&S. Totally have no memory of that.
heh I haven't heard someone reference "Purity Supreme" in a looong time. awful awful concept for a grocery store..
And I don't even need to know that store in particular to know yes it was a Stop & Shop.
When Stop & Shop was bought by Ahold in 1996, Ahold merged S&S, Heartland/Purity (which it already owned), Finast, and its operations in the Maryland area (as Giant) into 2 units.
Adam's correct, as cybah and google have have shown me. Mea maxima culpa. Don't know why I continue to trust my memory, when it consistently drops the ball on issues like this...
However, slight face-saving on the fact that Bubbles is still there and still in business. Of course, the only reason Adam mentioned Bubbles was to show me that I was incorrect, so it was a forced error of sorts on his part.
(I thought about adding that the DD is where Arby's used to be, but I think I've done enough damage here already.)
For punishment, as the old graffiti on the back of the building said, I shall grab myself a cup of Poison T, and Suck It Down.
Oh, yeah, Arby's, how could I forget that? It was back in the day, when the Burger King used to have this awesome outdoor kid's playplace, with this two-story-high slide.

Er
Wait, Savers is gone?
Yeesh, I've lived here too long

Spring Blossom
I miss them. Good food and nice people and they made a fine Singapore Sling. They didn't last long once they lost the liquor license.
Not Stop & Shop.
It was Heartland, or Purity Supreme to some, but it wasn't ever Stop and Shop. As far as I remember, anyway...
The place next to where Bubbles used to be?

Well, yes, I guess...

Northeast - Stop & Shop (CT, MA, RI)
Mid-Atlantic - Giant (PA, MD, DC, VA)
(NYC has had S&S off and on)

No, I thought Bubbles had ceased to be
Shows you what I know.
