I knew about two of those fires - one Saturday around 7 AM (the fire engines woke me up), and another on Sunday around 9. Saw the arson squad van out for the second fire, too. It's very disturbing - both of the cars were off the street behind houses, and if one of these fires spreads to an adjoining house it could be bad. It's a densely built neighborhood.

I'd be great to find this guy. I went to go look at the Beamer and the Jeep, and they are identical. Word on the street is that someone saw the guy and saw him throw burning newspapers into the Beamer.

So guy, if you're out there: there's a witness, and he knows what you look like and how you did it, so my recommendation is that you turn yourself in and hope for some sympathy.

This may not have anything to do with lighting cars on fire, but I am a lifelong Allston resident and am sick and tired of rich suburban kids from Jersey, Connecticut, Long Island, etc. treating Allston like their own personal dorm room. Just cause mommy and daddy can pay for you to come to Boston, doesn't mean you can treat my town like a garbage can. But its cool, I'm waiting for some trustfund baby to act tough so I can break his nose on some gradeschool recess sh*t. Show some respect for Allson, real people live here.

Totally agree... have some respect for other people and their belongings. I'm sick of worrying about people taking off my mirrors and now I have to worry about arson? Lame.

Yep, it'll turn out to be some asshat 20-something from Parsippany NJ, who think it's cool to torch cars.

I hope they catch you, convict you, and Bubba makes you his Boy Toy.

Hey Assclown,

Im an allston citizen as well! its not the college kids setting the fires its one of our own. Trying to get back at these college kids because your pissed your stuck in this shithole and are too fuckin lazy to do better for yourselves. Allston/Brighton are college neighborhoods. If you are living on the Harvard Ave side of the Mass Pike its your fault that you have to put up with that shit (ITS A FUCKING AREA LOADED w/ BARS and PUBS). I'd be more worried about the spanish kids running around w/ knives and guns than the drunk college kids bringing shit loads of money to your town.

Suck it up residents. Deal with the 8 months a year these kids are in school or move the fuck out of that area.

Thank You
An Understanding Resident

About 5 years ago I was in Alliston with a few friend. We left a bar driving down a side street, 4 college kids were walking down the middle of the road & wouldn't move. We stopped, 2 of the kids started kicking our car, acting all tough & like we were supposed to be scared. Well long story short, I don't think those kids will do that again.. All 4 caught the beating if a life time. I don't condone violence but somethings people need to be taught a lesson... Thats just what we did..

There were a series of fires in the mid-90s, including my roommate's VW bus. This was in the same general area, near the railroad tracks (we were closer to Union Square than the latest batch).

It was a local kid that time and it wouldn't surprise me if it's the same guy. I never knew who it was but the FD seemed to know and, as I recall, the fires stopped after the VW.

I agree with one of the previous posters - I would be surprised to learn that a college kid had anything to do with this.

The thing that gets me about these crimes is that they are being committed in an area where it is difficult to get in and out of by car (all the dead end and one way streets and being hemmed in by the tracks), which suggests to me that the person responsible for these incredibly dangerous act is on foot, and lives locally (I don't think its likely that someone is taking the T to this specific neighborhood to light up cars). I would like to think that the BPD has some detectives over there who are laying low in unmarked vehicles - I'm actually a little surprised that this person(s) has not been caught yet.

With respect to the college kids visiting for 8 months and acting like fools, well, I can normally look past all of that. However, yesterday I actually had to get out of my car at Cambridge and Lincoln St. and yell to the 20 year old girl and her friend in the late model car with NY tags behind me to stop leaning on the horn and making impatient gestures, as I was not about to take a left onto Lincoln St. until the green arrow came, in accordance with the sign clearly posted directly below the traffic light which directed same.

What I probably should have done, however, was walked back to her car and said, "look honey, I don't know which posh suburb or upstate hamlet you grew up in, but while you think this is nothing but an extension of your campus, there are some crazy mf's around here, so I'd think twice before you start acting like that. One day you might not get someone like me, and instead might get a busted window or much worse."

You handled this situation in a very cool, businesslike manner, and you were able to get the message across without escalating the situation. Bravo!

FOUR cars torched this morning - three at one go at the automotive warehouse off Pratt, and then another one after fire & police had arrived to investigate the first batch.
