Things have changed a bit in Boston public schools

The Boston Public Library recently posted a ton of photos of Boston schools and students in the 1890s, including these girls in gym class at Charlestown High School in 1899 (more bar work) and this metal forging classroom at Mechanic Arts High School (now the John D. O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science) in Roxbury in 1892:

But seriously, that's an awesome shop. Maybe fewer kids would drop out if they could beat the crap out of hot metal with a heavy hammer instead of filling in test bubbles.
