A two-alarm basement fire in a low-slung commercial building at 61 Franklin St. was reported around 1:15 a.m., the Boston Fire Department reports.
Two firefighters were taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital, one with a knee injury, the other with a shoulder injury. Damage was estimated at $250,000.
Firefighters had difficulty getting into the basement under a laundromat to battle the blaze; at one point, they were ordered out of the building due to the odor of natural gas.
