Penny Cherubino spots a car with 13 1/4 Back Bay residential parking stickers on the back window.
Props to Punterjoe for the headline.

I hope they own
13+ years of renting in Back Bay isn't the brightest idea. Also, the law says you're supposed to remove old stickers before installing a new one.
If they've got thirteen years
If they've got thirteen years worth of proof of residency, I'd think they have thirteen years of proof that they can afford to live there.
One way to afford it is to
One way to afford it is to not buy a new car in over 14 years.
I just shocked that in 13
I just shocked that in 13 years the back window has never been smashed.
Any one seen more on a car in the City?
I was wondering if this is a record. Has anyone seen more on a car in Boston?
I've seen more from Cape Cod.
I've seen more from Cape Cod. And it's always summer people.
Actually, all it might mean...
is that they can afford to rent there. That still doesn't make it a good idea. I can't imagine all those stickers are good for the driver's sight lines, either.
Why do they have to be renting?
They probably own their home and have chosen to raise their family in the city. They've got kids in a neighborhood private school and probably don't have to use their car that much, thus the 13.25 stickers. Not everybody evacuates for the suburbs in their second trimester. Good for them! That's 13.25 stickers worth of appreciation on their home and still the same car -- probably a pretty smart investment in urban living.
The owners
I know the owners of the car. Raised kids from birth to college on Comm. Ave. Condo owners the whole time. Actually I think since the late 70's in the same place.
Impossible
Have you tried to remove one of these? It is next to impossible, especially if the sticker is over your defroster. You can't use a razor blade without messing up your defroster. I went to plan "B" and don't put the sticker on my vehicle. The meter maids don't even look for the sticker, they run your plates.
Wait what?
Can those handheld things they walk around with run plates?
I got a ticket for not having put the sticker up yet (got it canceled of course, but this suggests that they look for the sticker). I also know of people who've had someone else get a resident sticker, then have alcoholed the sharpie off and written their own plate number and haven't gotten tickets.
Maybe this is new?
I've always assumed they could run plate but couldn't necessarily see on their handheld that a sticker was assigned because I've definitely gotten tickets on cars that had a sticker assigned to it. Actually, I've gotten tickets on a car that had a sticker assigned to and was properly displayed in the window - I had to go contest three separate improper tickets in a two month period before it stopped.
History of permit parking?
When did resident permit parking first rear its ugly head in the Boston area?
The earliest stickers I've seen are Cambridge ones from 1983.
Ugly head?
If it weren't for permit parking, I would rarely be able to park near my place.
I donno, when a whole state thinks your neighborhood is a great place to visit you really don't want them all parking in front of your place.
I remember reading a history of permit parking. I think it started in BH. Early 80's maybe.
