Not Surprised. Its not cost effective to keep a brand alive. I was waiting for this to happen. Hopefully the service will be the same. I doubt it though.
Seems like a good fit, given the non-overlapping locations. Just as long as the Davis Square branch still offers Munchkins. I'm kind of looking forward to it. There's an Eastern Bank right across the street from where I'm working now, so that's convenient.
From the literature they sent me, it looks like they intend to keep all the branches open. But it doesn't make sense to have two branches on Franklin Street downtown, four short blocks from each other. Presumably at some point they'll close one of these? I think they are both headquarters for the respective banks.
Other than downtown, the only place where an Eastern and a Wainwright branch are sort of near each other is Newton, where Wainwright is in Newton Centre while Eastern is about a mile and a half away on less convenient Needham Street (and also in Auburndale).
I too take occasional advantage of the Davis Square branch's Munchkins (along with their coffee, fireplace, CNN news on TV, and New York Times to read). The manager told me that none of the decor will change, so I hope all the amenities stay.

"Business as usual"?
Not for the dozens of Wainwright employees who are being laid off
Are there going to be layoffs at Wainwright?
The manager of the Davis Square office told me that everyone there is staying on with Eastern.
Hi folks, Andy from Eastern
Hi folks,
Andy from Eastern Bank here. I answered some of the questions posted in this thread over in the Davis Square thread: http://community.livejournal.com/davis_square/2515...
Thanks,
