Whole Foods: So, yeah, that happened

Julio Varela posts another open letter from Whole Foods, with an update on construction and planned hiring.

Though the meeting did not end the way that any of us had hoped, we still feel that it was a productive evening filled with valuable dialogue with our future neighbors. We look forward to the meetings we will be having with community groups in the coming weeks. We are also awaiting the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council Ad Hoc Committee’s report.

"tell me how my ass taste."

WF is sticking it to the hipsters and their latino allies by killing them with kindness.

It is called "not alienating their eventual customer base".

"We are also awaiting the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council Ad Hoc Committee’s report."

Because we haven't had a good laugh in a while.

The yucks have slowed down on this. I too can't wait to see the ad-hoc committee, as it remains, release it's discerned findings.

Whole Foods shouldn't be emailing bloggers, they should be emailing our local newspaper - the Gazette.

publishes more than twice a month and stops doubling as a Whose Food pamphlet, you may have a point. Besides, this letter's on the Gazette's home page and will probably print on Thursday, so quitcher bitchin.

when they only print one side of every story? That seems like a house organ for the politically correct to me.

How's it going with the neighborhood watch n stuff?

John Brown: it was lazy and irresponsible of me to post something without using my real name, so people could know who was writing something. Thanks for pointing it out to me. It's interesting to read what people write, but it's always nice to know who they actually are, like we do with you. I'll be more considerate in the future.

. . . No dog in this fight- but personally - WF is a nice enough chain but not a store I go to daily or even monthly. Way expensive and most of it is weird to my palate. I'd be upset if WF replaced the Golden Goose in the North End. It's a shi shi store for a particular crowd in my mind.

Besides- the stuff they do sell that I like- like Annie's Mac n cheese - is in most other stores now anyway.

I don't have a dog in this fight either, but I don't understand why you think Whole Foods is weird or expensive. Maybe it sold itself as a health foods store once upon a time, however it's pretty much become a normal grocery store.

A quick search reveals someone at the Globe did a price comparison:

. . . And sells stuff I mostly don't like- that's why- and I do t care what the globe has to say on pretty much anything as I think their "news" is for sale. It's a weird store that I don't patronize much and don't care to. Give me a Roache Bros or Stop n shop any day over a WF.

So you don't like fruits, vegetables and meat? I'm really confused about what stuff it is you don't like. Your response sounded more reactionary than reasoned.

Whole Foods have plenty of basic items to choose from, and their store brand is cheaper than Shaw's and Stop and Shop.

. . . but weird stuff. It's a weird store. Look- I have shopped there- and I don't like it. End of story.

But you're full of shit. End of story.

That's interesting that you make out better shopping at the Golden Goose than Whole Foods. I do a lot of shopping at the Goose or Going Bananas because they're convenient, but I feel like they're pretty expensive - at least comparable to Whole Foods, and higher on some things because they don't have a store brand option on staple items.

That said, I would also hate to see either become Whole Foods, mostly because we already have one so close and also because sometimes I just really want actual, non-organic Double Stuff Oreos or vanilla-flavored creamer.

I can see the headlines now, "Whole Foods kills the Golden Goose".

. . . but as there is a pretty big WF's with parking on Cambridge I sorta doubt it would ever happen. And if the Goose were to close and a big chain come in- I'd want it to be a Shaw's or a Stop N Shop- anything but a WF.

and so should you ... they are much cheaper than Shaw's or Stop & Shop. Friendly employees, too, and lots of them!

. . . with Market Baskets but I'll take your word for it.

Are there any Market Basket's in the inner metro area? They seem like a suburban-only chain.

They just opened what they claim is New England's largest supermarket in Chelsea, replacing an older smaller Market Basket in the same location. And they've been on Somerville Avenue near Union Square for decades.

(And I wouldn't really describe them as 'suburban-only' when they have long-established stores in places like the Acre in Lowell.)

An unofficial list of MA Market Basket locations is here.

yup. market basket is the best! the cheapest, the nicest, has the best stuff... and so on and so on.. :)
(but it can be rather crowded)

. . . I was driving back from my brother's place yesterday- and took a route I usually don't- and noticed the big Market Basket on Sommerville Ave.

/soapbox/
Dog fighting is illegal and despicable-I know its just a phrase and don't think I am all PC like that-I toss around "homo" and "pussy" when I shouldn't-but that's cause I love dogs more than 99% of people-*think* about the message you're blogging
