You call that snow? We'll show you snow!

I was just about to lower the French Toast Alert when I noticed some excited chirping among our local weather geeks. Naturally, I rushed right over to the calm, conservative Web site of the Taunton office of the National Weather Service, where I read:

A MAJOR WINTER STORM MAY AFFECT THE AREA WEDNESDAY AND/OR THURSDAY OF NEXT WEEK.

Comments

OK. I give up.

Tell me who to sacrifice, gods, and I'll do it.

Somehow ...

It just doesn't seem to help to be able to tell my kids that I told them so. Of course, they're ecstatic.

Son#1: (in early September brutal heat wave) I guess this hot summer means we won't have much snow this winter.

Me: (waxing body board, rinsing out wet suit) um, I wouldn't say that. I think it is going to be a really snowy winter.

Looking at the models

My completely untrained eye and reading some of the commentary from more of the experts says we either get a slopfest of freezing rain and flooding if the storm stays inland more when it gets done picking up a ton of moisture from the Gulf....

OR...super-blizzard if it stays just along the coast and basically slams us like the Christmas weekend blizzard last month. It all seems to depend on how entrenched the super-cold air coming this weekend is.

PLEASE!! NO MORE

One more storm and I won't be able to get to my hot tub for an after shoveling soak. FLA here I come!!

One benefit: the furlough days I had to give last year are being compensated by the Gov this year!

Could be big

Harvey "didn't want to comment yet' on the Tuesday night storm, but you could tell he was just itching...

That's not what I get...

Gee, when I click that link I get:

No Active Hazardous Weather Conditions
issued by NWS Brookline Village MA

On the other hand, I've heard from a couple of sources that we (New England) are stuck in a weather pattern where we may get significant storms every 4 or 5 days or so for the next few weeks.

Oh, take a look at this, then

Guess they don't permanently archive their warnings (that was attached to a "hazardous weather outlook" about today's storm). So let's turn to the Weather Channel, which enthuses:

Another East Coast Storm Looms!

...

It is far too soon to precisely forecast snow/ice totals for any given city/location.

However, this storm has the potential to dump at least 1 foot of snow over a large swath of the Northeast, with much higher totals exceeding 20" in spots.

High winds, downed trees/powerlines, and power outages are expected Wednesday into Thursday, particularly near the coast.

Ch. 7's Pete Bouchard already predicting a blizzard

At 6 pm, Ch. 7's Pete Bouchard was already predicting a "major, blockbuster event" for Wednesday and said that he was lowering the forecast temps because it's trending colder. He also alluded to it being the "Grand Finale" as in the last of the snow for a while.

He can't know that

Sure, a megastorm (1978!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) will kill the energy in the system for a while, but there is no way to say if it is the end of the line.

Unless the NAO flipped again. That takes a while to change things, though.

Bring it on, love the snow!

Bring it on, love the snow! Better than the horrid summer Boston just went through. At least you can put on some boots, a hat and you're fine. The summer was filled with 80 degree nights with 85% humidity for weeks on end, what brutal crud. It's also hardly even cold out! A few nights in the teens and single digits, and a little sweat from shoveling, you folks are SOFT!

hmm maybe i'll go buy

hmm maybe i'll go buy snowshoes...that way when i do it wont snow!

already tried that

I bought snowshoes on Monday, on the same theory. Didn't work so well.

All Hail!

Looks like it's going to hit

Looks like it's going to hit -5.

What was the last time it got below zero? The coldest I remember in my 5 years in Boston is 7.

Pete Bouchard said 6 years ago just now on the 10PM news.
