Boston firefighters made short work of a fire at 321 Commonwealth Ave., reported around 9:30 a.m. The Boston Fire Department reports the fire broke out on the second floor of a five-story building.
The department says the fire, which did an estimated $100,000 in damage, started with a kitchen short circuit.

321 Comm Ave
according to BFD twitter
Fixed.
This is what happens when you write something about Comm. Ave. right after writing about something on Boylston St.
Explains activity on Franklin St.
Rescue 1 went screaming by on Franklin St at about 9:33, followed a few minutes later by Tower Ladder 3. Wondered where the fire was but now I know.
Not sure I'd like my burning apartment to be photographed...
Though clearly, the homeowner would be very grateful the firemen were able to respond to the fire, I find it a little wierd snapping a photo of someone's burning home.
Was this a fireman taking the shot? If so, is this part of general PR campaign? Or was this a photographer tagging along with the firemen?
They usually do that now
They've been posting interior shots of fire scenes (always after the fire, not during it) for months now - along with exterior shots (sometimes during the fire), shots of trucks and equipment, etc. See their Twitpic feed.
I hadn't thought of the privacy issue before - they're not identifying the occupants or the specific apartment numbers - it's an interesting way to show what firefighters have to deal with (picture, thousand words, etc.), as well as to show people just how bad a given fire way.
The photographer is always a firefighter, typically their PR guy, Steve MacDonald.
PR campaign?
Yeah, I guess if you consider fire investigations to be PR campaigns. Think about it.
I was thinking the same
I'm no lawyer but i believe it's illegal to photograph inside private property without permission, unless it's private property that is open to the public ie: store, mall etc.
