Amy Casey wonders what the deal is with the women in Union Square in Somerville she keeps seeing with plastic bags covering their legs and purses.

If by that you mean they can't pull her off the streets and lock her up, then yeah.
pretty sure it's one woman
pretty sure it's one woman that is suffering from a form of OCD. She is often parked behind the citizens bank where I have also seen her scrubbing her car (that is full of plastic bags) down with plastic bags. I've witnessed her talk to people and she seems friendly enough. I've often wondered if the city or the police have outreach services that could check on her to make sure she is safe and aware of any services that may be available to her.

I used to live off Walnut St. a year or so ago, and I'd see her parked either on our street or on Walnut, wrapping the bags around her legs, or sleeping. She has a yellow VW bug, correct? I think she lives in her car, and I wondered the same thing, but didn't want to get authorities involved if she wasn't causing a legitimate disturbance. Poor gal.
I've seen her walking in Cambridge...
...or at the very least someone who looks a lot like that.
She seemed completely normal in every way, other than the bags over her feet.

I have seen her all around Somerville/Camberville as well
She drives a white VW Bug. I've seen her shopping in Shaws, in the parking lot at Fresh Pond, Union Square, and the Walgreens on Somerville Ave, from around 2010 onward.
There appear to be many bags in her car as well, and I have seen her with more than just her shoes covered.
It's the same person. Obviously some kind of severe germophobe OCD issue.

There's a Rite Aid on Somerville Ave (about halfway from Union Square to Porter Square), and a Walgreens on Beacon Street near Inman Square.
