Boston Latin pyromaniac strikes again

For the third day in a row, somebody set a trash barrel on fire at Boston Latin School, this time around 1:30 p.m. in a third-floor restroom. Teachers used an extinguisher to put out the fire, the Boston Fire Department reports. The school was evacuated for about 20 minutes.

Fire and police arson investigators got to the fire scene quickly - they were already on another floor investigating the previous two days' fires. There were no injuries, BFD says.

This happened my jr/sr year when I was there, got out 5 years ago. Fires were started in bathrooms during class multiple times to the point they changed up the system...They had to post hall monitors outside all the bathrooms and they were much more careful with letting kids go to the bathroom and stuff during class. It was annoying, I don't remember if they ever caught the kid...

When I was at BLS in the very early 70s there was something called "corridor patrol". One could apply for this position and be excused from gym class. Instead of going to gym you sat in a chair in the corridor and sort of made sure no one was where they weren't supposed to be. Basically you did nothing. It was great. I don't recall the whole process, but it was a great way to get out of gym. I wouldn't suppose they have that system any more.

yes, they still have that system. the seniors who sit outside are called praefects and they are spread around but as you cann see they did not do much help..

You didn't have to be a senior back when I did it in the 70s. In fact, I was only a freshman. I don't think they let sixies do it though. (They didn't let sixies do much of anything). We weren't called "prefects" though, that sounds awfully pretentious.

Are there no surveillence cameras on these premises? I realize there wouldn't be cameras in the restrooms themselves, but cameras in the corridor outside would show who was going in and out of the rest rooms.

That students be allowed to bring cameras or have devices that take photos handy, but it seems they have a suspect in custody.

im a bls student and this was not funny at all. 2400 kids getting evacuated at the same time is dangerous.
