Boston welcomes visitors from the City of Brotherly Theft

A pair of Philadelphians got some free lodging in the South End last night courtesy of the city of Boston.

Boston Police charge that Marjorie Lynn Pearson, 49, and Thomas L. Austin, 44, both of Philadelphia, stopped in at one of the restaurants at the Hynes last night just long enough to steal a woman's purse - from which they removed a credit card that they then used at the Boylston Street Apple store to buy a MacBook Pro.

Police say responding officers from District D-4 in the South End found the pair in a Dodge Magnum at Newbury and Fairfield. In the back seat: A MacBook Pro and a cup of water in which the two were allegedly trying to dissolve the part of the laptop receipt with the credit-card owner's name on it. Police say that didn't work. The pair also had a can of pepper spray back there, police say.

Innocent, etc.

A Boston Municipal Court judge set bail at $10,000 for each of them, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Why so high? Our own Jake Wark explains that Pearson has 41 aliases on a 51-page record, while Austin has 37 aliases on a 37-page record on a larceny spree that includes stops in Minnesota, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Florida. So looks like BPD has at least slowed down this alleged latter-day larcenous Bonnie and Clyde.

So much for three strikes. This couple could pitch a complete game between them.
