Brookline, surrounding areas not under attack, except maybe by clay disks flung into the air
Once again, people in Brookline and surrounding parts of Boston are reporting what sounds like repeated explosions. Shortly after 1 p.m., Mr. Jason asked:
Anyone hear random explosions in the Brookline Village/Mission Hill area?
Then, about an hour later, Hillary reported:
Still hearing it in JP - continual sets of two bangs at a time.
The answer, my friend, is shooting in the wind. Superguppy explains:
Probably skeet shooting over at The Country Club. Happens every weekend, get used to it peeps. #BlowingUpBrookline
And, sure, enough, a little Googling reveals that The Country Club features two skeet ranges (also: "A curling building with four sheets of ice").
Any other mysteries we can clear up? What, the costumed runners on Broadway in Cambridge? Molly reports that's the Boston Urban Iditarod, which, of course, takes place in Cambridge.

how did a country club get a .org address?
Really? Something tells me they're not a non-profit.
Send in the ORG
Send in the ORG stormtroopers! How dare they! Harrumph, harrumph!
Why couldn't they be non-profit?
If they're a private club member fees and other income would go toward the upkeep and running of the club.
Not toward anyone making a profit.
Look at the website
The link Adam posted was for a job posting for the club on the website for the New England Club Managers Association, which would more likely than not be a non-profit. The Country Club itself doesnt have an actual public website from what I can find, only an employees only site that requires login.
The Country Club website
is http://www.tcclub.org/ . If you click on "Job Opportunities" or "Caddies", you'll reach informative* parts of the website that don't require a login.
* well, somewhat informative. The 'About' page says it is accessible by public transportation, but the 'Directions' page doesn't tell how to get there that way.
They probably checked the
They probably checked the ".org" box or chose it in a dropdown on the domain name signup page. That's all it takes - you don't have to be anything or prove you're anything - at least when I did it.
Allandale Farm also has guns
and shoots them to scare off birds and the like.
Out of season for all hunting, assuming they could even hunt over there.
Skeet, huh...
,,,maybe one of them will accidentally bring down one of those surveillance drones. That'd be kitschy.
Police target range
The Boston Police also have an outdoor target range on Allandale Road just a few paces away from Allandale Farm toward the Arboretum. I hear it every weekend. No bigs.

Save the Skeets!
