DA: Man doing twice the speed limit when he struck and killed teen crossing VFW Parkway
Zyoma Vasserman of Newton, who has a long history of traffic offenses, was doing 59 m.p.h. in a 30-m.p.h. zone when he killed a kid crossing the VFW Parkway in West Roxbury in June, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office charges.
Vasserman, 49, was released on his own recognizance following his arraignment today in West Roxbury District Court on charges of motor vehicle homicide, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and speeding, the DA's office says. However, he was ordered to give up his license.
According to the DA's office, Vasserman was speeding along the parkway inbound near Gardner Street when he ran into Francis McInerney of West Roxbury around 9:20 p.m. on June 14. McInerney and some friends were crossing the parkway back from a trip to Marino's market. McInerney was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital, where he died later that night.
Vasserman stayed at the scene and showed no signs of intoxication, according to the DA's office, which says, however, he hap past traffic violations in Auburn, Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Needham and Newton, along with speeding citations in downtown Boston, Brighton, Brookline, Canton, and Dorchester.
Innocent, etc.

List of citations
That's a pretty impressive list of citations, given that I hardly ever see any sort of traffic enforcement in Boston at all.
You must have to try very, very hard to get these tickets, but someone's managed to do it. And keep their license, no less.
There is something terribly
There is something terribly wrong with a system that licenses people to operate heavy machinery, but does not remove that license after extensive multiple offenses.
As long as people view fatal
As long as people view fatal car incidents as just "accidents", and not as a failure to operate licensed heavy machinery, the system will not change.
It's not like he shot
It's not like he shot somebody.
Like
Except the part where the result is the same, it's not like he shot somebody.
So what does that mean??
That running over a pedestrian with a car and killing him/her is okay? Come on, now!
From what I hear, if you get
From what I hear, if you get more than 2 or 3 tickets in a few years, you will lose your license. The RMV can "administratively suspend" your license whenever they want.
I'd like to hear why this guy got to keep his for so long.
