Early morning fire on Mission Hill injures two

UPDATE: BFD reports cause was "careless disposal of a cigarette."

The Boston Fire Department reports a two-alarm fire at 808 Parker St. displaced eight people - one of whom was taken to the hospital with burns and another with smoke inhalation.

The fire, which did an estimated $200,000 in damage, was reported around 3:20 a.m. - by a neighbor who used a nearby street alarm box - and apparently started on the first floor of the triple decker.

Possible Cause

Globe Metro Desk claims that "The cause of the fire was careless disposal of a cigarette".

This building joins a long list of local buildings destroyed this way.

gee, big surprise

It's not enough that smokers have to cost us billions in healthcare, litter, give US cancer from secondhand smoke any time we want to walk on a sidewalk (even in LONGWOOD, in front of CANCER TREATMENT CENTERS!) or past a restaurant.

Now they're burning down the homes we live in! Why won't Boston ban smoking in multi-family buildings?

fire pulls

The Globe had an interesting story about these a while back - they use telegraph technology!

I encourage you tenants to get renter's insurance; landlords' insurance won't do much to help you - it will help the landlord rebuild, but the tenant doesn't get much out of it.
