That doesn't make me feel very safe! Fortunately I keep my phone tucked away in my purse. However, I don't like that he could so easily do this. I go through Haymarket all the time. Shady! :( -Mea www.hertrainstories.blogspot.com

If you've felt safe about waving a cell phone around at a T station, you've been living in a bubble. May as well hang a Steal From Me sign around your neck.

Its called dont buy an iphone.

iPhone's have the highest resale value because everyone wants one.

When was the last time you heard of an Android or an Windows Phone SmartPhone being stolen? Never...

Plus it doesnt help that people use the stock earbuds that come with the iPhone so those white headphones scream "Hi, I have an iPhone or an iPad".

Treat it like the $600+ device that it is.

Small+Expensive+Easy to sell = target for thieves

The situations where one is most vulnerable to a snatch and grab of an iPhone or other electronic device, are also the situations where you can get jostled and just drop the damn thing in the gap.

Put a lanyard on it already! You will be less likely to have either happen!

I have seen it happen! One girl lost her phone through the crack between the platform and the train. http://hertrainstories.blogspot.com/2012/01/stupid... As you can tell by my blog about it, I didn't think to highly of how she kept track of her devices. -Mea

... managed to accomplish this feat (quite a while ago). He's been much more careful since then (perhaps because he had to revert to a more primitve spare phone for a couple of years thereafter).

...I've had two Android phones stolen from me. And no I wasn't waving them around at a T station. Now I carry a Palm Pixi Plus, and I *do* wave it around as an advertisement that I don't have anything of value.

I haven't been living in a bubble. I'd just prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt that they aren't going to wrong me. Maybe that's the NH girl in me. However, since moving here, the city has hardened me just a bit. Hence why I put my phone in my purse and don't wear earbuds anymore. -Mea

Angel Carpio may be no angel, but why should he go willingly when we have Auntie Zeituni in public housing on the Southie waterfront and Uncle Omar in Framingham sticking around long after they were ordered deported? Plus, if stealing a car is no big deal according to Mayor Menino, stealing a few smart phones shouldn't even be a crime! Celebrate diversity.

They would have green cards or even citizenship if they were RMoney's Mexican kin.

Don't you think Obama could arrange that if he wanted to? Seriously?

But they didn't have a green card or anything. And, they both were told to leave by (then) INS. There's waiting lists for housing and here you have someone whose not supposed to be here taking a home meant for someone who IS supposed to be here.

But, I guess we should just shut up about it....Wow. Are there any other laws that we should just shut up about?

But OFISH-L's insistence that they have gotten special treatment as distant and estranged kin of the President is silly, given that he could probably get them a green card if he wanted to, and do it the old fashioned Massachusetts "everything is relative" sort of way that likely helped OFISH-L get his job as a cop.

The fact that they still aren't fully legal residents testifies to Obama's level of interest in them.

Illegal immigrants like Angel are only stealing the cell phones that Americans's can't be bothered to steal!

I'm guessing this is one sob story that won't make the Globe, or Elizabeth Warren's campaign. By their lights, the only illegal immigrants--err, undocumented workers--in the state are "hard-working people who are turning their lives around."

I have to wonder if you two scour the paper looking for local criminals from all corners of the globe or if you're content to just focus your racism on one or two races? I didn't notice any anti-Irish diatribes when Whitey got arrested. What's that? There isn't a rash of Irish crime? Maybe you're reading the wrong papers! Why, I'm 100% certain if you look hard enough at the BPD reports and maybe visit some "greener" neighborhoods, you could come to the conclusion that the Irish are trouble. Maybe we should send 'em all back to the Emerald Isle, eh? Doesn't sound like something you'd be interested in? How about that bank robber from yesterday, was he from Eastie or Winthrop? It doesn't matter, but I think he was Italian. How come you two didn't chime in with your "wit and wisdom" for that? Can't think of any other Italian criminals? I'm sure you object mightily when people call you racist, but really, why do you bother? Admit it to yourself, and anybody who calls you on it. It's the honest thing to do.

I believe Whitey Bulger was born in Boston so he's not eligible for deportation. I also believe the thugs in the bank robbery / carjacking are American born, so also ineligible. There's no racism here, just an appreciation for the rule of law. Lady Justice has a blindfold for a reason, it's unfortunate that under President Obama, she sneaks a peak to take care of his relatives and other criminaliens. Lastly, since you mention Howie Carr, did anyone do more to expose Whitey Bulger and bring down his brothers?

Since you can't make the connection yourself, let me do it for you. The difference in Whitey Bulger, the bank robbers in Saugus/Malden last Friday night and too many others to mention is they are all ours! Yes, we birthed them, bred them and we can be proud.

Now Auntie Z and Uncle O are not ours, they do not belong here. They were both told to leave and did not. My grandparents immigrated to this country and made sure they followed the rules when they did. Must have a job upon arrival, check; must have a place to live, check; must be vaccinated, check; must have a sponser, check. Being on the dole was not something they did, even with 10 kids. And yes, knowing my grandparents wanted to do it the right way, were thrilled at the opportunity to strive for all their dreams in the only country they felt they could. I must say they have given back more than they have ever taken.

Looks like certain of my ancestors were here long before yours, and when my ancestors told the new immigrants to leave, they did not, thereby paving the way for your grandparents to immigrate.

My great-grandfather (not related to the aforementioned ancestors) was not welcome back in his home country and snuck his family into this one, where he remained a not-very-nice man. But I bet, were he still alive, not one of you would even notice him on the street to wonder if he were here legally.

The only person I've known personally who was deported was from England. Why do I suspect that if he had been caught stealing mobile phones, this thread wouldn't be filled with quite the same hue and cry?

Right up to the point when an illegal, unlicensed, uninsured fellow like Angel plows into you, wrecks your car, injures you and your family, and then does a dixie on the court date.

In addition to the Herald, I also read the Milford Daily News. You ought to check that out some time--especially the police blotter.

...when everyone involved was born and bred in the US of A. I don't get what someone's immigration status has to do with their general level of responsibility.

There are plenty of undocumented folks on whose labor you probably rely, and because they're honest working people, you'll never know about them.
