Food fight: Food truck vs. Phantom Gourmet

"Do Not Serve" posters featuring Andelmans have gone up at the Staff Meal food truck, BostInno reports. It's partly due to an argument over whether food trucks are stealing business from restaurants, but goes back to last year's ugly little incident at Grill 23.

arbiters of taste in this fine city? I just had to mute my phone because I'm on a conference call and couldn't hold in my laughter at the instagram photo in the BostonInno article.

I work near Dewey Square and I'm pretty sure that the food trucks there are not threatening to Radius in any way, shape or form. I can only speak for myself but I don't have an intense internal debate every weekday at lunch over whether I should get a $6 chickpea fritter sandwich from the truck or Spanish Octopus for $18.

If you give most people the choice between a hot dog and a flight of cheeses from l'espalier, most most people will choose the hot dog.

These douchebags dumb food down enough to advertise to people who don't know they are being advertised to.

I wish more people knew that being phantom approved means you should stay the hell away.

On "SOWA" market day when all the food trucks are in that parking lot with hundreds of people sitting on the curb in the baking sun balancing paper plates on their knees whilst swatting away hungry pugs and ignoring their squaling children, I trot the block over and have an incomparable lunch at Myers and Chang where the children are well-behaved and there are no drooling curs to swipe my green papaya salad. I don't think I pay a dime more for the pleasure of a civilized meal either.

A better question is why someone pretending to be a food critic is actually a deeply entrenched industry insider.

Wonder what the breakdown of ratings is for RABA members vs. non-members.

Barbacoa tacos would only confuse and frighten them. Let the Dumb Brothers continue to hoe their tiny furrow of pimping deep-fried, cheese-covered crap on behalf of their show's advertisers that traffic in deep-fried, cheese-covered crap.

it's healthy and it generates wealth and beneficial externalities.

I'm not surprised to see GP called out on their racket.

Dave Andelman:

"The trucks should not be within 1,000 feet of a restaurant."

In other words, practically every neighborhood in Boston should be off-limits to food trucks.

Isn't that the buffer zone their cardiologist gave them after all the years of scarfing crap food?

Well, too bad for your whiny butt that Bon Me, Clover, and the other assorted trucks that frequent Dewey Square don't seem to be losing their long lines that start at 11:45 any time soon.

Good for me and my waistline and my wallet that backward fools like you don't run the city.

Oh, and for added reality lessons: street food is a feature of EVERY major city I have been to on multiple continents ... it is considered a basic amenity. Then again, you'd have to get out from under the bridge once in a while to actually know that.

I just waited about 15 minutes for my chickpea fritter sammich and it was worth every danged second of it.

Bless you, Clover Labs.

Added bonus: It's farmer's market day! I've got lilies in my cube!

It's nice to see that land that used to be a wasteland being used for something that makes our city a better place to live.
