Leslee watched some guy on Newbury Street yesterday show off his iguana to some young ladies - some of whom decided to give it a feel.

All urban owners of exotic animals do. They troll for attention. That's why they take them out in public (and on the T)and parade them around. Oldest trick in the book. The iguana looks supremely unimpressed by it all, however.

Couldn't agree with you more. There is no real concern for the animal, it's nothing more than a prop designed to bring the owner the attention he never got from Mummy or Daddy.

I'm not too familiar with iguanas, but unless their native habitat is the shopping district of a city, this poor guy should be in some dessert somewhere and not parading around on some douchebag's shoulders trying to impress 16 yr old girls from Wellesley. Just one man's opinion.

I guess it works. I saw this dude on the commons yesterday. My girlfriend was fascinated and wanted to hold the iguana. She thought it was cute. Anyway I prodded her to keep walking, knowing that this tool was just looking for attention. The guy had this awkward grin obviously loving the attention of everyone pointing at him and his rodent. It would be pretty funny if he was showing it off to people and it just took off.
