Geese playing chicken

Geese on train tracks.

Some geese were just hanging out this morning on the train track on the Cambridge side of the BU Bridge.

For taking a pic and not just a gander.

I'm down with that.

I snuck down here a few months ago to take some photos and a GODDAMN TRAIN came chugging down the tracks when I was about halfway across. The whistle was blowing, some lady on the BU Bridge was screaming, and you can't just haul ass running either, because your foot might slip between the ties and then you're done for. I thought I was going to have to jump in the river. So be careful!

Is what you're saying? :)

You won't catch me on that bridge.
But thanks for the tip.

I'd probably try to skinny up against the sides. Looks like there's space between the buttresses.

No, don't worry, your intrepid photographer was not about to wander on the bridge. If you're walking along Memorial Drive, there's a set of stairs that lead down to the tracks for some reason. I was always on terra firma (the firma the betta) - the couple of times I did cross the tracks, I looked both ways first. Surely I can't be the only person who remembers that scene in "Stand by Me"?

To walk across that bridge.
That's for the birds.

There's always a pack of geese down by the Grand Junction. Even at night, I've seen them sleeping in that little empty space next to the tracks. It appears Cambridge has spent some money on landscaping that area recently too. There's often a homeless lady down there feeding them.

I've seen stupid BU kids climbing on the bridge to tag it. They clamber through the gaps to get around to the side. It's an active RR, despite appearances.

If they ever try again to get revenue service on the bridge I wouldn't be surprised if the geese showed up at a community meeting to honk about it.

Didn't you hear about the massive conspiracy to disrupt the Charles River White Geese? Adam should try to interview this guy :) http://charlesriverwhitegeeseblog.blogspot.com/ (weekly blog posts on this topic dating back to 2005...)

The heartless abuse of the Charles River White Geese and outrageous environmental destruction at Magazine Beach is just part of a very massive and destructive situation.

Very recently, hundreds or thousands of animals were killed as part of the destruction of acres of irreplaceable woodlands at Alewife.

The con is a massive organization in Cambridge whose strings are very clearly pulled by the City government.

Two fake groups are attacking the Charles River with very major harm to this excellent gaggle. The tactic, as is normal in the Cambridge pol organization is Company Union.

Create a fake group, claim to be defending against something. Then get well meaning people to work in the opposite direction from which you claim to be standing.

The tactic is lies of omission. The key stuff is suppressed. The good people are told to ignore reality and by ignoring reality, to let, in this case, Cambridge and the Department of Conservation and Recreation, indulge in heartless animal abuse.

The fake groups are fighting for this outrage, for continuing multiple outrages of which this is a part at Magazine Beach.

The latest con they tell people now is to pick up trash at Magazine Beach and to help them with a historical building and picnic tables. They suppress the fact that they are destroying the parking lot there and destroying the nesting area of these beautiful beings by replacing it with an impenetrable thicket.

The impenetrable thicket duplicates a bizarre wall walling off the Charles River from Magazine Beach.

It expands on poisons being dumped on Magazine Beach to keep alive sickly grass installed in place of grass which survived the better part of a century.

It expands on reduction in size of the playing fields at Magazine Beach to drain off the poisons.

It expands on the destruction of a boat dock there for most of a century.

EVERYTHING DONE had been done through flat out lies or lies of omission. NOTHING has been meaningfully communicated to the public because the public would condemn it.

And the fake groups just keep plugging on lying about which side they are on and destroying the causes they claim to stand for.

Key: Cambridge City Manager, Cambridge City Council, and, in this case, the DCR.

A rotten, corrupt situation.

To put it concisely, Cambridge and the DCR are killing off all free animals in or near the City of Cambridge.

On the Charles River, the DCR has a policy to kill off all free animals on the Charles River Basin. That it hidden in their secret definition of parkland.

The immediate technique is make work for their buddies.

The Charles River White Geese are deservedly very popular. They have been starved by city and state since 2004 and fed by volunteers.

The current conversion of their nesting area into an impenetrable thicket is just the latest tool.

All the attacks on them are fully and easily reversible.

Massive killings will continue at Alewife because the city's fake groups are fully in control there and effectively keeping the mass killings secret while yelling their concern.

The fake groups are the tool by which Cambridge destroys and destroys and destroys. They are well established and now have the machines of nine city councilors behind them as well.

The reality is corrupt and vile.

Any proof of this:

Very recently, hundreds or thousands of animals were killed as part of the destruction of acres of irreplaceable woodlands at Alewife.

Or were you counting all of the fly eggs?

Do you think boblat knows thezak?

which *may* be what the commenter is referring to. It is the reason that the Fitchburg Cutoff path is not yet open for public use, even though the new bridge across from Alewife Station has been finished for months.

That's great if that's what they're referring to. However, I don't recall the burning pile of animal carcasses with squirrel heads on pikes as a warning to the other woodland creatures.

have a website:

and a blog:

DCR, and before that MDC, has been trying to get rid of them for ages (claiming they're partly responsible for the high coliform levels in the river) but the geese have very active allies.

I think the geese lady has forgotten these are wild animals, not pets. If their 'habitats' are disrupted, they fly away and live somewhere else..
