John Lackey's recovery continues: He can pick up objects in both hands now

Comcast Sportsnet reports on the grim scene in the clubhouse last night after yet another stupid loss:

Lackey was so busted up after the latest defeat that he was strutting around the clubhouse with a can of Bud Light in each hand, or what is known as "double-fisting" on every college campus in the history of mankind.

I have no words to describe my Red Sox rage today.

Dear Lord, thank you for the Patriots!

First he rips Pedroia for being upset about the loss....then he rips Lackey for a) traveling with the team (though last year the media ripped Ellsbury for NOT traveling with the team while injured) and b) having a beer (or two) after the game in which he COULD NOT PLAY.

The boston media is the worst, followed closely by the whiny fans that think every loss is because the team didn't try hard enough, or because they're out of shape, etc.

Are the Red Sox a playoff team this year? No, but that doesn't mean they should be ripped to shreds. I haven't heard one player complain, or whine, or give up on the season....yet the fans gave up a week into the season. The same thing happened last year when the Pats lost 2 in a row, and when the Bruins were flat in Oct, and when the Celtics were stumbling in Jan/Feb. People used to say Boston fans were the best in the country because they knew about the sports they followed, and even when their teams weren't great, they'd support them and show up. That's not the case anymore....the first sign of trouble and the personal attacks begin. The fact that last fall there were articles about whether Brady was done, and if Belichick needed to go was despicable. The fact that the same people who cheered Beckett/Lester/Pedroia in '07 when they won the World Series are now insulting their work ethic, their character and their motivation is equally despicable.

Sorry for the rant, but this pisses me off...and I really don't blame sports fans as much as I do the media. This absurd "I need to find a scoop and rip the players so I can get more page hits" is disgusting. Tony Mazz, Abraham, Cafardo at the globe...they're all the same. If you get enough hits, you get a radio show. If you get a radio show, maybe you get some face time on ESPN and a job w/ESPN Boston. Sports fans are bombarded w/information now more than ever before and it's gotten to the point of absurdity. What do I care if the guys had a beer after a loss. What should they do? Cry? Get so mad they can't eat/drink? There are 162 games! Regardless, if I lost a close game, the FIRST thing I'd do is get drunk!

I hear it all the time from "fans" where I work. If the Sox turned it around tomorrow and made the playoffs they'd be talking about how great they are. But now all I hear is how much they can't wait for football season. I tell these guys all the time what fair weather fans they are. They respond they don't care about baseball but in '04 and '07 they wouldn't shut up about the Sox. Makes be even more thankful that I'm a Yankee fan. But don't get me wrong, I like when the Sox are good because that means there's good baseball to watch in Boston and it's exciting. But when the whining starts it's pretty disgusting.
