MA is #1 or #2 among the 50 states in per capita state debt. Because of all the tax exempt institutions and demographics, more state money flows into Boston than flows out. Pray that we continue to defy gravity (somewhat) with the local economy. If that stops, it could be US asking GREECE for a bailout.
Gross Metropolitan Product, analogous to a nation's Gross Domestic Product [GDP] is big, in the top 10 of American cities. And yes, many American cities have GMPs larger than whole nations.
