Mystery: What was the retired Teamster from Charlestown doing with a backpack filled with $180,000 in cash when he died?

Associated Press looks into the circumstances of last August's death of William P. Coyman, who collapsed on a platform at New York's Penn Station. The government is now trying to win control of the money.

He was found with just shy of $180K on him (probably spent the difference in the club car on the train) and worked for a company called 180 Entertainment... Obviously they're a charitable group that goes around distributing $180 grand to worthy charitable organizations.

Not to defend the Teamsters, but highlighting them in the headline seems a bit sketchy. The guy was a retired Teamster and was potentially involved with them when there were some shakedowns going on, but he could just as easily be a retired Sears shoe department sales associate who was now involved in running drug money and you probably wouldn't say "Retired Sears shoes salesman found dead with big bucks." Granted, the shoe department at Sears does not have a reputation like the Teamsters (and has probably not been associated with shakedowns recently), but still...

He spent his life as a Teamster, in a local with a reputation for, shall we say, problems, had a criminal record of his own and then he collapses and dies with a backpack stuff with lots of cash.

Had he actually been a retired Sears shoe sales associate, the story of the cash might still be interesting, but unless the Sears shoe department was noted as a place for illegal activities, his past might not be relevant to the headline, although it might just because it would be so bizarre: "What was retired shoe salesman doing with $180,000 in cash when he collapsed and died?"

but you're way, way off base when speaking about the late Mr. Coyman. I'm sure Bill Freidkin would disagree with you on that, too.

and subsequently set the tone for the somewhat stormy relationship between Hollywood and the Boston local.

Brinks Job? That was late 70s. Long memories 'round here... I thought we were talking about more recent movie maker shakedowns.

in the Bunker Hill projects. I hung around with him a few times, as his mistress was my girlfriend's BFF. He was colorful, feared and respected in the neighborhood, the way Whitey was in Southie, but he was no rat, believe me.

He died the way he lived, up to something that really could never be explained, but in the way you didn't want to have it explained to you unless you wanted to end up in that blue dumpster behind Local 25.
