Not the kind of serenading diners wanted

Sob Story Guy

Neil the roaming UHub photographer was sitting down to dinner at the California Pizza Kitchen in the Pru last night when one of our Sob Story Guys launched into his spiel. "Set up shop in middle of crowd and launched into sob story," he reports, adding, "I tipped off the bartender and he went quietly when the manager bum rushed him."

As if that bum wasn't annoying enough on the Green Line.

We all pooled our money together (well, not me, I was 4 years old) and bought the (expletive)heads in our community one-way tickets to wherever they wanted to go. We called it "Westward Ho." We should do that here too...round these people up and put 'em all on a Greyhound to Helena or something. Not our problem anymore!

These people are a cancer that must be removed. I'm all for social programs and what not, but at some point, an adult is just simply not going to be coaxed out of being an (expletive.)

What if this guy is one of the guys whom you gave one way tickets from when you were 4 and he chose to come to Boston?!?!

This is an old police trick by the way. Boston dropping drunks/thieves off in Quincy, Medford cops dropping them off in Somerville, etc, etc.

...why would Boston cops drop the guy off in Quincy when they could just get back on the red line really easily and continue their business?

It depends though. They usually are too drunk to do anything, or don't have money for the train ( many homeless people like to walk anyway)

Sometimes you drop them off in the town they might have a BS warrant for or are from.

Sometimes they live in the other town.

Sometimes your shift will end by the time that person comes back to cause another issue.

The Sob Story guy sounds like a walking spam ad - annoying and hard to get rid of unless you give him money.

Public shaming would go a long way at running these lazy able bodied bums out of the sob business. If they got booed enough times, they'd knock it off.

Unfortunately.
This guy is the worst of the worst of beggars. Totally aggressive and disrespectful.

Do you honestly think someone who engages in this kind of annoying, anti-social behavior can actually be shamed by ANYTHING? Absolutely not. The very reason they engage in this kind of behavior is because they cannot be shamed. Not that I think your "shaming" idea was a very good one in the first place.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE BEGGARS IN RESTAURANTS THEN MOVE TO THE SUBURBS!

Restaurants are private owned businesses, and once asked to leave you have to, less run afoul of trespassing laws.

Enforce the laws.

Public places are different, and ye they should shut up or move to the suburbs. Or better yet get involved in local charities and organizations that focus to help homeless population and get them off the street.

But yeah, i know you were being facetious. so disregard rant...
