Oh, right, like you've never wanted to walk around the duck island in the Public Garden lagoon

Before they refilled the lagoon, Mike the Mad Biologist took a walk to and around the island.

Speaking of the lagoon, the Swan Boats return April 14.

... now an island. It seems the town fathers were distressed by reports of public canoodling (or what passed for such in the late 19th century). So the "land bridge" was removed & the ducks had the run of the place undisturbed by spooning humans.

Is that you, Mr. Lomasney? I'm surprised to see you writing about your antics when you could have spoken, nodded or winked.

Shouldn't you be at Locke-Ober enjoying a cocktail?

Never slam a door when you can rustle a curtain.
never rustle a curtain when you can flicker a candle
and never flicker a candle when you can send a chill ddown a spine.

Or something like that, not really up on my afterlife communications.

Love it.
I forgot about the history. Some (human) lovebirds were out there on one of our fine recent days. Wonder if they knew they were flouting generations of oppobrium.

I've heard the same tale about the peninsula and it's effects on young lovers. Zoom in far enough on this 1864 map, and you’ll see the peninsula: http://maps.bpl.org/id/12676

But it’s gone in this map from 1901: http://maps.bpl.org/id/12570

. . . walking around there couple weekends ago. Thought about going down there and poking about a bit- but- looked muddy- and didn't. I wonder if the city collects change out of there regularly?
