Red Line even worse in the evening than in the morning

In addition to the track work north of Harvard, a train broke down at Park Street just in time for the evening rush hour. Riders are not amused, except for the ones sitting next to adorable French-speaking little kids.

Increased numbers of French speakers

I wonder if they were saying, "Mommy/Daddy, why is it taking so long for the metro to come? It doesn't take this long in Paris."

More seriously, that's an interesting side note about the kids speaking French. I feel like there has been a marked increase over the last few months in the number of people around town speaking French (I've seen/heard several families on several occasions speaking French in the Brighton Whole Foods and the Brookline Stop & Shop - never encountered that prior to the last few months) - I thought that it might be attributable to and influx of French nationals coming over in connection with the opening of the big new Dassault Systemes facility in Waltham and a couple of other French companies that have acquired local firms.

Anyone else notice or know what might be up?

I doubt it's those specific companies. The Dassault Systemes building houses 850 employees, but most are coming from the former Concord and Lowell offices.

It's probably just the general international character of the city from the universities, etc.

Sanofi just swallowed

Sanofi just swallowed Genzyme, and for better or worse their offices are now teaming with French employees. Okay "teaming" is an exaggeration, but there are a lot of French working over in Cambridge, and I suspect also in their other locations.

When the commute home involves standing spooning on a red line car while people make consternated noises and generally look around in confusion, not because folks decided to go green post-Earth-day and take public transit, but because we are waiting at each station between Park & Davis for 10min........it makes me a lil stabby.

At this rate it wont be public-ejaculation we need to worry about on the red line, but aggressive hissy fits.
